In 2020, hot air balloon flights for sightseeing began under the approval of the Japanese Association of Balloon Operators (JABO) for the first time in Japan.JBS (Japan Balloon Service) was the first to do so.In 2022, we introduced Japan’s largest 10-seat hot air balloon, the only one of its kind in Japan.With safety gained from 40 years of experience, and because we have always taken on new challenges as a pioneer in the hot air balloon industry, we will take you to the most exciting scenes.

Staff Introduction

All JBS pilots have been certified by the Japan Association of Hot Air Balloon Operators (JABO) as certified hot air balloon operators with over 75 hours of flight experience and have gone through rigorous training and passed the final screening. Please feel free to visit us in the sky.

The first ever, huge hot air balloon, the biggest one in japan has now been available

In August 2022, a hot-air balloon that can accommodate up to 10 passengers will make its debut at Watarase Reservoir. This is the only place in Japan where the entire group can take a commemorative photo at the same time in the sky. Whether it is for a trip with seminar friends, employee welfare program, friendship among members of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, or the activity before a reunion party, this is a new option to create memories for various groups.

Flow of the dayFlow of the day

Gathering Time Gathering time is approximately 60 minutes before sunrise
Reception Fill out the boarding application form and consent form, and explain about the daily flow of the sightseeing flight experience.
Transfer to the takeoff site Transfer by car to the takeoff site (The takeoff location will change depending on the wind direction of the day.)
Preparation for hot air balloon launch Heating the air inside the balloon skin with a burner to launch the hot air balloon.
Takeoff Once the balloon is up and airborne, take off and begin your journey into the sky!
Flight The flight takes about 45 to 60 minutes. (The flight may be shortened depending on the weather conditions and information on the landing site.)
Landing and cleaning up the hot air balloons Load the equipment into the car and return to the meeting point.
Dismissal It takes about 4-5 hours from the meeting time. We recommend that you do not make other plans in the morning, as it depends greatly on the weather.

Approximate meeting time: 4:00 from February to April, 3:30 from May to July, 4:00 from August to October, and 5:00 from November to January. *This is only an approximate time. Please be sure to check the meeting time, which will be announced the day before.

Watarase Reservoir is located at the southernmost tip of Tochigi Prefecture, in the northwestern part of the Kanto Plain, bordering Gunma, Saitama, and Ibaraki Prefectures.

FAQs

  • Who cannot board?
    • Those who are under 5 years old, pregnant, children who cannot be accompanied by a parent or guardian, those whom the pilot deems to be a hindrance to safe flight operations, and those who cannot stand for one hour. Please consult with us before application if you are in poor health (diarrhea, headache, nausea, stomachache, etc.), afraid of heights, have broken bones or other injuries, or have a constitution or illness that makes you vulnerable to impact. Please consult with us before applying if you have any of the following: Persons with disabilities/Persons with concerns about boarding
  • How many passengers are allowed on board?
    • The maximum number of passengers is 8 adults. This number may vary depending on the total weight.
  • How long is the flight?
    • The flight time is 45 to 60 minutes. The most common altitude is between 50m and 300m, but can climb up to 1000m if conditions are suitable.
  • What is the coverage and liability for passengers?
    • We have passenger accident insurance. (Insurance premium is included in the boarding fee.) Death and disability: 30 million yen, hospitalization: 10,000 yen per day, hospital visit: 5,000 yen (coverage period is up to 90 days) Boarding a hot air balloon is based on my personal decision, and we are not responsible for any liability other than the above accident insurance in any case.
  • What if I cannot fly?
    • If the pilot determines that a safe flight cannot be performed, the flight will be cancelled. The cost of accommodation and transportation to the site is the responsibility of the individual. Even if the flight cannot be performed, no compensation will be provided. Please understand that.
  • How will I be notified if the flight is canceled?
    • We will check the weather forecast at 5:00 p.m. on the day before the day of the experience, decide whether the flight will be canceled or not, and notify you by e-mail. Please be sure to check the email sent the night before.
  • What about refunds in case of no-show?
    • You will be asked to enter your payment method at the time of reservation, but we will complete the payment only if you were able to fly.
